Story of the day

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

3/16 actually.

I parked in front of a Vannegan (sp?) with Cathedral School and SLUH stickers on it. Excited, I wanted to leave a note just to say hi. The meter was flashing expired and I put in a dollar, left my business card and walked to meet Hans for lunch. I turned around, deciding to write something on my card. I wrote that I paid the meter, had gone to Cathedral and SLUH ‘97. While I was writing, I spotted some meter maids walking up the street. I was happy that the story got even better!

I had been thinking that it would be cool if I was the hero, like I’ve been twice before paying meters. Yeah, it happens a lot.

Disturbing the peace

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Today a CID guide was hassled by some youths. Several cop cars pulled over the bus they jumped onto and cited the alpha youth with “disturbing the peace.” Police use “disturbing the peace” when they have nothing better.

I embarrassed Katie by calling her out as the most beautiful customer we’ve ever had, EVER!
Another customer complained until I explained that she was the most beautiful FEMALE customer ever. He conceded the truth.

Parallels: BIST/Starbucks, Communion/Caffine

Today, I met with Phil Pusateri from De La Salle Middle School at St. Matthews. I remember how much I love those kids, that staff and Phil. The white knight in me stirs within me. (http://www.cmi-lmi.com/kingdomality.html)

I respect the culture of Starbucks and am pleased to make comparisons between Starbuck’s Partner Development Plan, BIST’s BIST Plan for Success, and education’s Standard’s Based Education (SBE). What do we expect the learner to be able to do? How will we measure this?

In transitioning from De La Salle (DLS) to Starbucks, I face a new, secular existence. I used to pray to St. John Baptist de La Salle. I read how he instructed his teachers and students. Now Charles Schultz pours his heart into it. Faithful folk used to line up to see me to get a cross of ashes onto the forheads. Now, secular folk line up to see me mark their cups at Starbucks.

Starbucks St. Louis

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

I have been too afraid to blog my Starbucks experience, since it might contain information too-juicy-for-corporate, or other threatening drama. I’ve been reading starbucks gossip at http://www.starbucksgossip.com , which is hilarious. My favorite topics have been the ghetto latte (ordering shots of espresso in a large cup and filling up dairy at the condiment bar) and the cup-on-a-car-roof marketeting.

Jenny Rodriguez is a funny and confident realtor/barista. Today, I said out-loud that I missed seeing her, since we now work different shifts. She commented on my typing reports. It just made me so happy that someone was reading my blog that I had to write about it.

I also wanted to share with the world how nice it is that so many customers have given us presents: personal and communal, mostly comfort food.

My experiences at different Starbucks around St. Louis have been interesting. I’ve worked at “Retail-Hell” Galleria and “Latte Factory” Brentwood this past week.
